Abstract


Penelitian ini berjudul “Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Berdasarkan Bahan Ajar Khusus Bagi
Mahasiswa Non-Jurusan Bahasa Inggris di Lingkungan Universitas Serambi Mekkah, Banda Aceh
(Teaching English-Based on Specific Materials for Non-English Department Students of
University Serambi Mekkah, Banda Acch), guna melahirkan sebuah Buku Ajar khusus yang dapat
dipergunakan oleh mahasiswa Non-Jurusan Bahasa Inggris di lingkungan USM khususnya, dan
PTS lain pada umumnya. Oleh karena penelitian ini bersifat uji-coba (experimental study), maka
rancang bangun desainnya merujuk pada rumusan uji-coba mengikuti saran Ary (1979) dan
Arikunto (1996). Agar hasilnya lebih maksimal dan optimal, maka pada tahun pertama diupayakan
lahirnya sebuah draf bahan ajar yang dapat dievaluasi berdasarkan “Target Needs” (Apa yang
menjadi target kebutuhan peserta didik?”). Hutchinson and Waters (1987:55) say that, “Target
needs is something of an umbrella term, which in practice hides a number of important distinction.
It is more useful to look at the target situation in terms of necesities, lacks and wants.
